If you look in the mirror and wish you had straighter teeth, it’s possible that clear aligners could help you achieve the look you want. There are more options than ever when it comes to orthodontic clear aligners, and if you’re a candidate, you can benefit from nearly invisible aligners that can be removed when you eat, brush, and floss. So, what do you need to know about clear aligners in Lincoln? Keep reading to learn more.

Who Can Wear Clear Aligners?

If you are a teen or adult with minor malocclusion, meaning your teeth are not in the perfect position, you may be a candidate for clear aligners. Clear aligners can correct the following dental issues:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Gapped teeth
  • Crowded teeth

There are limitations to clear aligners, however. If you suffer from a severe overbite or your teeth are rotated or turned too much, you may need traditional braces to straighten your teeth.

However, if you have worn traditional braces in the past, you may be able to wear clear aligners to enhance your orthodontic treatment.

The Clear Aligner Process

If your dentist tells you that clear aligners are a viable orthodontic option to straighten your teeth, your treatment plan will include the following steps:

1. A mold of your teeth will be made so that your clear aligners can be created. Your aligners will gently shift your teeth over time.

2. Using 3-D imaging technology, your dentist will create a digital map of how much your teeth need to shift.

3. You will wear your custom clear aligners for two weeks before switching to the next set. Each set will shift your teeth a little more until they are straight.

Clear Aligners in Lincoln, NE

In our dental offices, we proudly offer both Invisalign and ClearCorrect aligners. Although they are very similar in that their goal is to straighten your teeth, there are a few differences to consider:

Cost

Generally, ClearCorrect can be less expensive than Invisalign. Your treatment cost will vary depending on the severity of your dental issues and the length of treatment time. Your Lincoln dentist can explain the costs when they plan your treatment.

Comfort

ClearCorrect aligners are made from a thinner material than Invisalign, and this material may be less flexible. Although the thinner material is less visible, it may also be less comfortable.

Technology

The ClearCorrect software options are more versatile for your dentist. Invisalign uses only one software, while ClearCorrect offers several options.

How to Care for Your Aligners

It’s essential that you follow the care guidelines for your clear aligners, including the following:

  • Rinse your aligners with warm water when you take them out.
  • Brush your aligners at least once a day.
  • Soak your aligners at least once a week.

What if I Lose My Clear Aligners?

If you remove your clear aligners and accidentally lose them, you can either return to your previous set and wear them or begin wearing your next set a little early. It’s best to contact your dentist’s office so that they can advise you.
