A white filling is a tooth-colored material that we use to repair a tooth with decay or damage. We shape it to fit your tooth, then harden it with a special light so it stays in place.
This patient had an older metal filling on a back tooth that was worn and dark around the edges. We replaced it with a tooth-colored filling that matches the natural tooth. In the after photo, the tooth looks more natural and blends with the teeth beside it.
Many patients like white fillings because they blend in with your smile. We also bond them directly to the tooth, which lets us remove less healthy tooth structure in many cases. Not every older filling needs to be replaced, so we will check yours and talk through your options.
