Dental Implants

Dental ImplantsMissing teeth can detract from your smile and confidence. Thankfully, with modern dentistry procedures, you can replace those missing teeth with dental implants at Antelope Creek Family Dentistry.

Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements that were first developed half a century ago by a Swedish scientist named Per-Ingvar Branemark. Today they are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or extracted teeth.

The Dental Implants Process

Which Teeth Can Dental Implants Fix?

Every smile, like every patient, is unique; so dental implant procedures may vary from person-to-person. However, our Lincoln, NE office provides dental implant solutions for all of the following dental needs:

  • Single Tooth Replacement
  • Anterior Teeth Replacement
  • Posterior Teeth Replacement
  • All Upper and/or Lower Teeth Replacement

The entire dental implant process is performed over several months. The first step is installing the implant body. Once you are sedated, this involves your dentist placing a cylinder-shaped, medical-grade titanium screw into the jawbone. Your dentist will also make a small incision into the gum so the implant can be inserted. Stitches are usually not necessary and typically no bleeding occurs. Multiple implants can be placed at once if necessary.

Following installation of your implant, the implant must be allowed about 3 — 6 months to heal. In that time the jawbone will form around the implant in a process called osseointegration. If you are self-conscious or uncomfortable with missing a tooth during this period, you can choose from several types of temporary crowns as placeholders. These transitory crowns will allow you to eat and speak normally and maintain an aesthetically pleasing smile

The Abutment & The Crown

After the implant has healed it is then time to place an abutment on the implant. The abutment serves as the base for your new tooth. Once the abutment is installed, an impression is taken by your dentist and then sent to a lab. There it will be used to create an implant crown, which will complete your new tooth. When the dental crown is ready we’ll contact you to schedule another appointment with your dentist at our Lincoln, NE office. From there, your dentist will finish your dental restoration by securing the crown to the abutment.

State-of-the-Art Technology

At Antelope Creek Family Dentistry, we use a trusted state-of-the-art dental lab right here in Lincoln, NE—Dental Designs dental lab. We never use discount dental laboratories outside the United States that cannot guarantee the use of ADA-approved materials. Dental Designs only uses materials approved by the American Dental Association to construct your natural-looking dental implants. As an added bonus, the lab provides on-site consultations for more complex dental implants cases.

Dental Implants vs. Dental Bridges

Restore Your Smile TodayDental Implants are a wonderful alternative to traditional fixed or removable dental bridges. Fixed (or cemented) bridgework requires that the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth be crowned to help secure the bridge in place. Traditional bridgework will have all the teeth connected together. If for whatever reason, a tooth that is part of the fixed bridge should fail, then the entire bridge is lost. The possibility of this occurring with dental implants is extremely low because dental implants do not typically need to have the adjacent teeth crowned. Dental implants can act independently, just like natural teeth

implants2.jpgWhen you have a problem with your teeth it seems that it becomes a major priority in your life. Dr. Treat put in implants and my teeth are no longer a worry for me. They are just like my own teeth. I highly recommend implants from Antelope Creek Family Dentistry. – Charlesa T.

implants3.jpgI have had trouble with my teeth since I was a kid. It got to the point I could only chew on one side of my mouth. Dr. Treat recommended implants and it has solved my problem. I've had them for several years and would recommend them to anyone. – Charlie Huber

implants4.jpgAfter experiencing numerous dental difficulties, braces, partial and regular over-dentures, etc. that left me with a narrowing lower jawbone not conducive to holding in a full denture. ACFD really came to my rescue with an installation of five separate implants spaced around the front arc of my lower jawbone: they then built a bridge connecting all five implants. A very well-fitting denture was designed with brackets inserted that clamp on the implanted bridge so snugly that there is no slippage yet today…twenty years from installation in 1991! All five implants are just as secure in my jawbone as they were in 1991. I highly recommend implants and dentures by ACFD! – Bonnie Eckery
